    Join Ann Timmons, Communications Artist, as she shares her unique approach to speaker training, honed during her years in the professional theatre. Ann will offer unique insights for finding your presence, so you can get your message across to anyone, anytime. You’ll walk away with a few practical tools to help you discover your own strong, powerful presence--and start using it immediately. Note: All participants will receive a follow-up email from Ann and be added to her mailing list to receive a monthly newsletter. Participants may opt out at any time.

    Speaker Bio:

    Ann Timmons teaches people how to speak so others will listen, using her background as an actor, director, writer, and teacher. Ann’s distinctive approach to presentation skills and communications training helps each client discover and embrace an authentic presence. Her clients include current political leaders, as well as business and non-profit leaders. She’s been honored with the prestigious Alice Paul Award from American University for her work with the Women and Politics Institute. Ann is a recognized expert in the fields of communication, women’s leadership and public speaking, and is on the  SheSource team for the  Women’s Media Center. www.anntimmons.com Twitter:@annspeaks

    Applications received after this date are not guaranteed placement.

    Non-members may participate in a Mentoring Circle for a fee of $50.

    This fee will allow you to attend all Mentoring Circles-associated events throughout 2017 for free.

    Are you planning to March for Science on April 22? Do you know when and how to intervene if someone you are marching with or near gets harassed? In this training, you will learn how to de-escalate situations, how to get other bystanders to help, when to intervene, and when to go for help from the police. There will be role-play in small groups to practice the techniques presented.

    Biography:

    Sherry A. Marts, Ph.D., CEO of S*Marts Consulting LLC, is a skilled workshop leader, facilitator, writer, and speaker with a lively personality and a wicked sense of humor. A former association CEO with a wide-ranging background in biomedical research, nonprofit management, public education, and research advocacy, Sherry provides expert consulting services to nonprofits and academic institutions on diversity and inclusion, harassment and bullying, and interpersonal communication. She also offers executive and career coaching with an emphasis on career and leadership development for women. Her interest in the issue of harassment and bullying lies at the intersection of her professional life as a woman in science, and her previous experience as a women’s self-defense instructor.

    Dr. Marts is co-author (with Raven Dana) of The Book of How: Answers to Life’s Most Important Question.

    Dr. Marts received her B.Sc. (Hons.) in Applied Biology from the University of Hertfordshire, and her Ph.D. in Physiology from Duke

    Please join AWIS-DC and 500 Women Scientists on April 19th to a poster making event for the March for Science. Please bring your own poster/t-shirt/hat to decorate. We will provide some markers, pencils but feel free to bring your favorite ones.

    The event is free but space is limited, so please make sure to RSVP.

    Summer is (unfortunately) drawing to a close, but not before we give it a fond farewell with drinks and food! Please join us for a AWIS DC happy hour at Ambar Restaurant at Capitol Hill! Relax, unwind and network with fellow AWIS DC members and associates. This event is free and open to all members and non-members. No need to RSVP. The more the merrier so please invite friends and colleagues. Hope to see you there!
