Presenter: Sherry A. Marts, Ph.D., President and CEO, S*Marts Consulting, LLC

You’ve heard that “networking” is key to career advancement. So, you’ve gone to networking events, you’ve eaten the bad hors d’oeuvres and drunk the cheap wine, you’ve made some small talk and exchanged business cards with a few people, and you’re still waiting for it to pay off. Or, because you dread and detest all of the above, you’ve resigned yourself to missing out on this particular career advancement strategy.

Here’s the well-kept secret: networking is a set of tools and techniques, and no one is born knowing how to do use them perfectly. And none of it is any harder to learn than all the things you already know how to do – although it does take practice.

In this session, we’ll open up the toolbox and uncover ways to make networking easy, interesting, and fun. You’ll learn how to approach networking events with a plan and a strategy, how to start an interesting conversation with pretty much anyone, and how to follow up with new contacts without being a pest. You’ll have a chance to practice on each other, and you’ll set some straightforward goals and create a networking plan to achieve them.

AWIS-DC  is excited to host an interactive evening with Jen Dalton, CEO of BrandMirror.

Although you probably don’t think of your career as a business, advancing in your career often requires the skills of an expert in sales and marketing. You are that business’ brand, and learning how to make yourself stand out, to make your value visible, and to create a strategy for building and maintaining your presence in the job market is crucial to success. And the job market these days is increasingly online.

Join DC AWIS to take a step back, assess what your online brand is, and how best to position yourself to move forward in your career. Jen Dalton, CEO of BrandMirror, will provide strategies and insights for you to better understand your unique value, and to communicate that clearly to your target audiences. You’ll learn how to ensure that your reputation in person and online is remarkable, and sets you up for new and exciting opportunities.

Jen Dalton, CEO of BrandMirror, has over 15 years of experience in strategy, marketing and coaching. Jen helps people present their most compelling and powerful selves to the world, and she is an expert on making best use of social media tools while avoiding potential pitfalls. She has spoken to and coached thousands of individuals and entrepreneurs about defining their brands, crafting their stories, and how to stand out. She is an international speaker and has worked with companies like GE, IBM, Capital One, 1776, C-Lever, and more.
